All doctoral researchers within TRR404 are supervised according to the Dual-PI supervision model. Each doctoral researcher is assigned two supervisors from different partner institutions as well as a personal mentor. The main supervisor is the PI of the respective project at the hiring institution, while the mentor is a local scientist available as a day-to-day point of contact. Part of the doctoral phase is spent at the respective partner institution.
